Active Release Technique, or ART, is a patented, state-of-the-art soft tissue system and movement based massage technique that targets muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. It is especially effective on sports injuries, which often occur from over-use of muscles and tissues. Our doctors are able to consistently resolve over 90% of patients' problems, in part because they are credentialed providers and instructors in all areas of ART.
Acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc.), accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma), and not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia) can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. If a nerve is trapped, you may also feel tingling, numbness and weakness. ART is effective in relieving these issues.
Every ART session at Duke Chiropractic is actually a combination of examination and treatment. The doctors at Duke Chiropractic notice how patients' symptoms seem to be related to changes in their soft tissue that could be felt by hand. Your doctor will use his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.
These are just some of the conditions that Duke Chiropractic treats with Active Release Technique.
