Dr. Duke is a strength and conditioning Coach certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He specializes in personalized exercise programs to help his clients speed their recovery. He recently earned the certification as a Level one USA Triathlon coach to assist his patients by being able to better communicate with their coaches regarding modifications in their training plans so they can have a better chance at achieving success in their race plans.
Dr. Duke specializes in curing Back pain, treating Endurance athletes, Triathletes and Marathoners and "fixing" soft tissue injuries. He uses a variety of soft tissue manipulation techniques in his evaluation and treatment process including Active Release and Graston Techniques. These modalities break down chronic scarring to the muscles, tendons and ligaments that limit motion and cause degenerative changes to the joints.
Preventing spine surgery is Dr. Duke's specialty. He uses Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression in his approach to relieving disk compression on exiting nerve roots that cause sciatica and local back pain. It is not uncommon for Orthopedic surgeons to refer their patients post op for this specialty care to aid in the recovery process and reduce the scarring that limits joint mobility and return to function.
Dr. Duke's background in Sports Medicine, Kinesiology, Strength and conditioning and Biomechanics enables him to not only effectively treat his patients but enhance their athletic performance.
Medical Staff appointments and past experiences include: Physician Team Captain at the ING/TCS NYC Marathon; New York City Triathlon; Strength and Conditioning coach for the Chicago Blackhawk's pro hockey team; Sports Chiropractor at United States Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs; and Sports Physician at local, national and world sporting venues. Dr. Duke has lectured and published numerous scientific papers on Plyometric training and its use on enhancing athletic performance.
Dr. Duke is the author of Back In Action, a book demystifying the approach to healing back pain. It is filled with dynamic spinal exercises you can perform in the comfort of your own home.
He recently created Run Smart New York, a series of free clinics for runners and athletes that teaches them how to use foam rollers, massage balls, stretching and strength exercises as remedies against running and cycling injuries.
Dr. Duke enjoys running, competing in Triathlons, Cross Fit, Insanity workouts, weight training, spinning — essentially, anything that helps him stay fit! He maintains a gluten-free, dairy-free, hormone-free, pesticide-free, organic way of eating and cooking.
