Pain Management & Surgery Prevention

Dr Duke treating low back pain.

Admittedly, Duke Chiropractic is a last resort for many chronic pain sufferers. Many have either had surgery (but with a poor outcome) or they cannot or will not have surgery. We help patients heal, rather than just manage pain. In some cases, we help patients avoid surgery they thought was inevitable.

Instead of taking the traditional medical approach of injections, narcotics and analgesics, we use alternative methods to decrease pain and improve function. We don't just focus on the current pain or injury, but on all the previous factors that may have hindered your recovery.

Dr. Duke provides tips for healing after spinal surgery.

HOW DUKE CHIROPRACTIC TREATS PAIN AND HELPS PREVENT SURGERY

Duke Chiropracticuses alternative medicine and out-of-the-box approaches to ease patients’ suffering, improve their quality of life, and help many of them stay out of the operating room. Our process often involves the following:

  1. Evaluation. We listen and review all the previous factors that may have contributed to your previously poor recovery.
  2. Unconventional chiropractic care. We use alternative methods to align your spine, reduce scar tissue adhesions and restore normal mobility. We call this “slide and glide,” and it ensures that your spine and joints move as they should.
  3. Treatment plan. Since most patients have been in pain for a while, it takes time to correct some conditions and “undo” some of the previous rehab that has failed. Treatment plans may include but not be limited to:
    • Chronic manipulation: A gentle realignment of joints of the spinal column, which, when misaligned, can cause nerve and muscle disorders.
    • Exercise and maintenance: Our doctors design exercises that are specific to your posture. For example, we’ll teach you how to organize and re-stack your posture and realign your spine. In addition, key stretches, core endurance and mobility movements are also important keys to preventing surgery. Some patients require check-ups approximately once a month to "maintain" all the good work we've accomplished.
    • Kinesiotaping and RockTaping: A rehabilitation technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process by providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body's natural movements.
    • Active Release Technique (ART)
    • Graston Technique
    • Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression
    • EPAT
